More Information On This Vendor
Buffalo Trail Orchard is a 5th-generation Tennessee Century Farm started in 1890. The farm gets its name from the Old Jonesborough and Old Kentucky roads that were formed on top of supposed buffalo trails back in pioneer days. Sitting on about 200 acres that has been pieced together over the years, BTO raises apples, peaches, blackberries, blueberries, pumpkins, squash, and sweet corn.
They have about 1500 apple trees spanning 3.5 acres and around 900 peach trees on 1 acre. Blackberries and blueberries cover an acre each, and the plums sit on less than a quarter of an acre. Using integrated pest management principles helps protect their crops and minimize chemical use.
Buffalo Trail has diversified their operations, running a u-pick as well as selling at farmers markets and their farm store. Raising over a dozen types of apples enables BTO to have crops July through January.
